|History of the Neighborhood Chipping Program|
The very first chipping program was held by The Big Bear Valley Fire Safe Council in 2004.
The name “Chipper Day” is reminiscent of a beaver chipping through the forest turning little trees and branches into chips. Property owners were asked to haul overgrown vegetation, tree trimmings, and branches to a central location. This was marginally successful as most homeownres had no way of transporting large piles of materials. Thus the Bear Valley Curbside Neighborhood Chipping Program was born. The property owner would call the Curside Chipping Program hotline to schedule a pickup. HOTLINE 1-877-771-2447. The neighborhood chipping crews would be scheduled to pickup the material curbside and haul the material away free.
