2011 Valley Wide Chipping Program

2011 was another successful year of growth for the "On Demand" neighborhood chipping program. Now in its 6th season, The Big Bear Lake Fire Department, Big Bear City Fire Department, and San Bernardino County Fire Department combined their resources to offer chipping for the entire Big Bear Valley. Our crews serviced over 3,100 requests, thus helping to eliminate over 1,100 tons of vegetation. The majority of chipping requests were picked up within two weeks of their request. In addition, Bear Valley residents exceeded last year's entries by logging 8,700 hours creating defensible space on www.thinisin.org . Thank you to these residents. By taking the time to log in the hours spent creating defensible space, these residents have helped to maintain the grant funding responsible for the availability of the chipping program for the year 2012.
